Neurotech Pharmaceuticals is an innovative biopharmaceutical company located in Cumberland, RI, within the realm of Greater Boston’s vast biotechnology landscape. Since our inception more than 20 years ago, we have been developing a proprietary biological drug device combination technology for treatment of a variety of retinal disorders. Our most advanced program is developing a treatment for the orphan disease Macular Telangiectasia Type 2 (MacTel). Our Encapsulated Cell Technology (ECT) platform is designed to deliver a genetically modified neuroprotective factor to slow the progression of this chronic retinal disease.
Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Financial Officer is a critical executive leadership role that ties directly to the success of the company. The CFO will develop, implement, monitor, and ensure the successful execution of the company’s overall financial strategy as we look ahead to commercialization in 2024. The CFO will be a decisive, hands-on, strategic business partner with exceptional financial leadership and project management skills who will achieve the desired results through articulating a clear vision, cross-functional collaboration and effective influence with all levels of internal/external stakeholders.
Ultimately, we are seeking a sophisticated financial expert who will quickly build trust with and gain the respect of the company, leadership team, Board of Directors and other financial professionals with whom Neurotech partners.
Job Requirements
- Provide exceptional financial leadership through development, implementation, and execution of a successful financial strategic plan that aligns to Neurotech’s corporate goals.
- Leadership of the accounting/finance organization to provide timely and accurate preparation and analysis of budgets, forecasts, financial reports and trends.
- Partner with the department leaders and provide insight and challenge to support their decision making.
- Upgrade Neurotech’s current reporting environment (budgets, forecasting, and monthly close process), including the development of a commercial-ready financial system, that interfaces with external reporting systems.
- Timely delivery of monthly financials and management reporting, ensuring accuracy, clear analysis, alignment with corporate goals and identification of opportunities for improvement. Post-commercialization, this will also include financial reports which summarize business activity and financial position in areas of income, expense, and earnings.
- Oversee the annual audit process, resulting in timely completion of audits and compliance with all SOX requirements.
- Build, mentor and develop a high-caliber team, ensuring their readiness for next-level opportunities.
Education & Experience
- CPA degree required, Big Four or other public experience is a significant plus, as is experience within a global entity.
- 12-15+ years relevant public/private, successful accounting/financial leadership experience in the biopharmaceutical/medical device industry is required.
- Prior C-Suite financial leadership experience in a life sciences start-up company, preferably biotech or biopharmaceuticals, is preferred, though candidates who meet with job requirements and who are ready to assume a C-Suite role may also be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proven ability to operate strategically and deliver tactically, flexing seamlessly between the two.
- Experience in developing effective financial management & reporting tools.
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP/IGAAP/IFRS and internal controls (SOX, JSOX)
- Strong knowledge of financial and reporting systems (and tools / ERP systems); prior implementation experience is highly desirable.
- Experience working closely with General Counsel to assure proper legal oversight
- Proven ability to lead by example for the benefit of the organization.
- Good knowledge of tax, treasury, IR, and/or experience in those functions a plus.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and any local regulatory requirements.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- Experience recruiting, coaching, and developing a high-performing team.
- Demonstration of the highest degrees of respect, integrity, and trust within a cross-functional environment.
