This role will have exposure to all parts of the company and will support the team’s mission to improve financial acumen and constructively challenge leaders to drive results that align with Poseida’s strategy. You will provide critical support to the Finance and Accounting team, as well as to functional business leaders leveraging our advanced gene engineering technologies to create life-saving cell and gene therapies for patients with high unmet medical need.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Sr. Director, FP&A, the Director will support the Sr. Director with the financial management of a new research collaboration with Roche-Genentech, while partnering with other functions in the business to prepare comprehensive budgets and meaningful financial reporting. The position will hire, mentor, and supervise a financial manager to assist with financial management of the operations organization including manufacturing, process development, procurement, logistics and quality.

Responsibilities

These may include but are not limited to:

  • Ownership of the FP&A function for assigned functional areas including the Roche research collaboration, to include financial planning and tracking of operating expenses, headcount reporting, capital expenditures, monthly close support, quarterly forecasting, annual budgeting, and variance analyses.
  • Prepare quarterly updates to projections and actuals to support partner reporting requirements including operating expenses and headcount allocation tracking
  • Provide insightful analysis of complex data to non-finance business leaders; deliver analyses and outputs that clearly communicate key trends and insights, variances to plan, opportunities and risks, leveraging and demonstrating a strong command of the business and its key performance drivers
  • Leads and aligns financial forecasts and long-range planning processes with our business leaders. Drives business value by providing financial and analytical counsel to facilitate decision-marking around strategic business initiatives, program and portfolio management
  • Perform actual to budget/forecast variance analysis monthly including financial reports for senior management and the respective department heads
  • Provide business support to the manufacturing team, clarifying drivers and understanding cost of goods sold
  • Support Sr. Director, FP&A with relevant insights in assigned business areas for impact to cash projections
  • Continually refine use of data systems and tools to track performance and metrics, provide reporting solutions and enhance operational insights
  • Work collaboratively with the FP&A team to drive performance towards team goals
  • Work on ad-hoc projects as needed, driving insightful analyses and conclusions

Requirements, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • MBA or BS degree in Accounting or Finance with 10 plus years of relevant finance experience (an equivalent of education and experience may be considered)
  • Partner collaboration financial and relationship management preferred
  • Previous biotech or pharmaceutical experience highly preferred
  • Knowledge of US GAAP and revenue recognition
  • Exceptional Excel financial modeling and analysis skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong proficiency in Adaptive Planning (or similar planning software), Powerpoint, Great Plains
  • Highly effective communication skills across all levels of the organization
  • Strong relationship building, collaboration and teamwork competencies
  • Detail oriented, tempered with the ability to see the big picture
  • Aptitude for quickly absorbing knowledge of company operations
  • Effectively manage multiple tasks while ensuring accuracy and maintaining deadlines
  • Requires minimal supervision with the ability to act independently, exercise sound judgement and demonstrate grace under pressure or uncertainty
  • Strong relationship building, collaboration and teamwork competencies
  • Detail oriented, tempered with the ability to see the big picture
  • Aptitude for quickly absorbing knowledge of company operations
