How you will make an impact

As a Payroll Specialist-Contractor you will lead the day-to-day activities of accounting in the areas of payroll and benefits.  You will process the payroll, benefits and time tracking reports.  You will work closely with the entire organization including human resources, legal and information technology.     

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Processes semi-monthly payroll using Workday
  • Ensure new state payroll tax registrations and garnishment are complete in collaboration with ADP
  • Collaborate and partner with HR and IT in the implementation of new Workday system releases impacting payroll, benefits and or compensation
  • Prepare all payroll, paid time off and other benefits journal entries and reconcile payroll and benefits accounts for month end close process
  • Analyze payroll and benefits related accounts for unusual trends to ensure accurate reporting
  • Prepares information required to complete the 401(k) audit and the workers compensation insurance audit
  • Prepares compensation and benefit information to support the proxy and tax provision
  • Supports Sarbanes-Oxley compliance process and recommend SOX Controls as needed, as related to areas of specific responsibility
  • Reviews and reconciles quarterly and annual, federal, and state, payroll tax returns, and form W-2s

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting is required with at least 7 years of experience in Accounting and General Ledger (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Working knowledge and research capability of applicable local, state and federal law pertinent to benefits administration, and familiarity with FMLA, CFRA, CA SDI, ADA, OSHA, COBRA, ERISA.
  • Microsoft Excel (intermediate level, including use of charts, graphs, and pivot tables) and Word required. 
  • Ability to work independently, protect and safeguard confidential information, great attention to detail and to meet deadlines.   
  • Solid experience in problem solving skills, analytical thinking, and transformative skills necessary to grow with a company are of major importance.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical/biotechnology or related industry in a financial capacity highly preferred
