Monitoring is used by pulmonologists and patients throughout the United States.
Spire Health is building the future of remote patient monitoring. We give physicians insights into their patients' health between doctor visits, helping them better manage high-risk chronic disease patients. In particular, we serve patients in the U.S. who have chronic respiratory diseases (COPD, Asthma) with a novel sensor and algorithm system that identifies changes in a patient's health. We focus our efforts on patients identified by their doctor as good candidates for our monitoring program and enroll them at little to no cost to the patient.

Summary & Scope of Position:

The Controller is the senior-most member of the accounting team and trusted partner for the CFO.  This is a director level position responsible for managing global accounting functions, financial reporting, and internal controls. The Controller will be expected to build his team, insource currently outsourced accounting functions and help prepare the company for an eventual IPO.

The Controller will oversee all accounting, lead systems implementations and enhancements to align with the company’s strategic goals, oversee all external financial statement audits, reporting and internal control (SOX) domestically and internationally.  The position will promote quality and integrity of the accounting output by effectively managing all aspects of the corporation’s general accounting processes through effective communication and a positive customer service attitude.  This includes building/maintaining a cohesive and effective staff; day-to-day management of departmental staff; modifying and maintaining policies; continually seeking mechanisms to streamline and automate processes; and building and maintaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. This role will report to the CFO

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Interpret and apply GAAP and other authoritative accounting standards;
  • Ensure close process is streamlined and supportive of backend internal and external reporting requirements;
  • Provide oversight of equity accounting and payroll.
  • Build an accounting team and manage a growing staff.
  • Oversee the evolution of financial accounting and reporting systems required to maintain reporting requirements and prepare for exits.
  • Maintain internal control environment to ensure compliance corporate policies and procedures for general accounting operations
  • Lead the strategic selection, implementation and/or upgrades of systems and/or ERP modules required as part of the company’s strategic global expansion
  • Review new customer contracts to ensure accurate application of revenue recognition criteria and actively partner with Legal, Customer Services and Sales Operations;
  • Manage external auditors, valuation experts, and other third-party experts;
  • Oversee accounting staff and participate in the human resources activities of the department (interviewing, retaining talent, professional development, performance evaluations, compliance with corporate policies, etc.)
  • Prepare materials and interact with Board of Directors’ Audit Committee;
  • Lead, participate in or perform ad hoc projects or other related duties as required.

Qualifications/Requirements/Skills:

  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of current and developing GAAP standards;
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and 10 years related experience required;
  • A CPA license and/or years with an auditing firm preferred;
  • ERP implementation experience
  • Experience managing external audits
  • Experience managing accounting function in a dynamic, growing, manufacturing company is helpful;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP;
  • Demonstrated managerial capability to initiate and make improvements to processes and procedures;
  • Hands-on management - ability and desire to manage, as well as perform the detailed work personally;
  • Demonstrated time management skills (schedules, timelines, task prioritization);
  • Strong communication skills – written and verbal; ability to, coordinate and interact with, board level, executive management, middle management and personnel within other departments;
  • Ability to demonstrate a high degree of mental effort – nearly all duties performed under tight deadlines and under the scrutiny of corporate stakeholders
  • Ability to plan, manage, and complete regular and special projects associated with general ledger and account reconciliation responsibilities.  Must be able to analyze accounting processes, procedures and controls and suggest and implement improvements.
  • Ability to construct financial & other reporting models to assess and report performance.
