Design Therapeutics is a biotechnology company developing a new class of genomic medicines based on our platform of gene targeted chimera (GeneTAC ™) small molecules. GeneTAC molecules are designed to either turn-on or turn-off specific disease-causing genes to address the underlying cause of disease. The company’s lead program is focused on the treatment of Friedreich ataxia, followed by a program in myotonic dystrophy type-1 and discovery efforts for multiple other serious degenerative disorders caused by nucleotide repeat expansions.
Description
Under direction of the Controller, the Accounting Manager will be a key member of the Finance team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The Accounting Manager will ensure accurate and timely processing and recording of the company’s financial transactions and ensure compliance with internal controls. A successful candidate should be capable of producing accurate and timely work products, possess a strong work ethic and be a team player.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and perform the month end close process, including preparing account reconciliations, overhead allocations, and journal entries while ensuring the records and financial statements are in compliance with US GAAP.
- Supervise Accounts Payable staff and manage process and procedures Monitors controls to ensure compliance with SOX.
- Calculate, analyze, and prepare journal entries for Research and Development (R&D) contract accrual models, based on Contract Manufacturing (CMO) and Clinical Research (CRO) agreements.
- Liaise with internal and external project managers for monthly analysis and to resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Review and verify payroll with Finance & HR teams
- Responsible for Fixed Asset process, including additions and disposals, and depreciation.
- Compile financial work papers for quarterly reviews and annual audit.
- Maintain various spreadsheets, using advanced Excel formulas and pivot tables, to support financial transactions and analysis of various expenses.
- Preparation of returns for Use Tax, Personal Property Tax, and other city/state reporting, as needed.
- Develop and implement workflow process improvements and internal controls, including documentation of desktop procedures.
- Assist with special, ad-hoc projects as needed.
- Respond to internal and external customer requests as appropriate.
Education and Experience
- BS degree in accounting or finance.
- Active CPA preferred.
- 6+ years of combined public accounting and biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience of the Accounts Payable function.
- Previous experience with clinical trial, research and development, and outsourced manufacturing accounting.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the job duties as listed above is acceptable.
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and organization.
- Advanced Excel skills (e.g. pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).
- Ability to quickly learn and utilize various software applications to complete assigned tasks.
- Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously, managing complex responsibilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work on cross-functional teams
- Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with as Quickbooks and NetSuite preferred. ADP payroll a plus.
