POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Senior Cost Accountant applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports and reconciliations. Will handle accounting and reporting for all areas related to inventory and costing of commercial product along with development/pipeline projects. Ideal candidate will be highly motivated, show initiative, possess excellent communication and detail orientation skills and analytical ability.

ESSENTIAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Responsible for inventory analysis to include development of cost models, standard cost updates, variance analysis, movement trends and financial reporting.
  • Analyzes changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods, or services provided, to determine effects on costs.
  • Communicates information effectively and translates financial data into meaningful information that supports business decision making.
  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare month-end adjusting and closing entries to accounts along with reconciliations and year to date roll-forwards of activity.
  • Handles processing of corporate purchase orders along with analysis of vendor contracts and open purchasing activity.
  • Work with other departments to set up a review of open purchase orders for the company to be able to accurately estimate monthly, quarterly and year end accruals.
  • Maintain a control environment in which the processes are consistent with the requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Interact with external auditors to ensure audit activities are executed in a timely manner.
  • Identify areas for process improvements, efficiencies, and establish SOPs.
  • Collaborates with the other finance team members to support overall department goals and objectives.
  • Assist with special projects and research projects as assignment by management team.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

May require some travel on an as needed basis.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires a minimum BS/BA in Accounting, Finance or Economics and 5 to 7 years of accounting experience with minimum of 3 years of cost accounting experience.
  • Excellent organization, communication and attention to detail required.
  • Self-motivation, good judgement, strong follow up, analytical, problem-solving and results driven required.
  • NetSuite experience, especially with inventory transacting, highly desirable.
  • Experience working in Pharmaceutical or Biotech industry preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Spends approximately 90% of work time sitting and meeting with others or working at a desk and/or computer. Spends approximately 10% of work time standing or walking within the work area or at meetings and bends, twists, stoops and reaches. Ability to communicate in writing and verbally. Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 10 pounds. Ability to travel occasionally (within COVID-19 guidelines). Working conditions are normal for an office environment. The noise level is usually moderate.
