POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Accounting Manager is responsible for maintaining company financials in accordance with accounting principles, practices and company policies to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. Oversees Accounts Payable and Expense Reimbursement areas along with corporate accruals. Provides leadership and direction to the Accounts Payable Analyst. Performs initial review of various transactions, including reconciliations and journal entries.

ESSENTIAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Assist in closing the books monthly, including preparation of schedules related to accruals and preparation of various complex journal entries along with account reconciliations.
  • Prepare and perform ad-hoc analysis, variance analyses and reporting as needed.
  • Perform detailed review and approval of journal entries and supporting documentation for the month-end close and accounting transactions.
  • Responsible for the oversight of the accounts payable function for the company including review of all vendor payments and month-end reconciliations.
  • Responsible for managing Concur Expense Reimbursement system ensuring all transactions process completely/accurately, training new employees and maintaining expense reimbursement policy.
  • Assist with Sunshine reporting compliance.
  • Work with other departments to set up a review of open purchase orders for the company to be able to accurately estimate monthly, quarterly and year end accruals.
  • Ensure financial results are in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain a control environment in which the processes are consistent with the requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Interact with external auditors to ensure audit activities are executed in a timely manner.
  • Identify areas for process improvements, efficiencies, and establish SOPs.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with the other finance team members to support overall department goals and objectives.
  • Assist with special projects and research projects as assignment by management team.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires a minimum BS/BA in Accounting or Finance and 7+ years of experience in Financial analysis, audit or general accounting.
  • Prior supervisory experience required.
  • Pharmaceutical or life science company experience preferred.
  • Self-motivation, good judgment, strong follow up, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills and results driven.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills required.
  • Pharmaceutical or Biotech company experience preferred.
  • Previous public accounting experience highly valued.
  • NetSuite ERP experience a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Spends approximately 90% of work time sitting and meeting with others or working at a desk and/or computer. Spends approximately 10% of work time standing or walking within the work area or at meetings and bends, twists, stoops and reaches. Ability to communicate in writing and verbally. Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 10 pounds. Ability to travel occasionally (within COVID-19 guidelines). Working conditions are normal for an office environment. The noise level is usually moderate.
