Viracta Therapeutics is private biotechnology company committed to advancing new medicines to benefit patients with viral-associated cancers and other serious diseases. Viracta’s proprietary platform is a highly targeted combination therapy approach for virus-associated malignancies. Our initial focus is on cancers associated with the Epstein Barr Virus (EBV). We will also expand into additional applications to utilize this approach for a range of cancers and virus-associated diseases.

Position Description:

We are currently seeking a Manager, SEC Reporting and SOX Compliance to join our experienced accounting and finance team in Cardiff, CA. This newly created position will be responsible for and participating in a variety of key finance and accounting activities, including SEC financial reporting, the development and monitoring of policies and internal controls for compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, clinical trial accounting, month-end closing, internal financial reports, and other administrative functions.  A strong team player who enjoys oncology drug development and who has the ability to communicate and collaborate in an interdisciplinary environment is essential.

Primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Responsible for compilation of quarterly, annual, and periodic SEC filings, including footnote preparation and adhering to disclosure requirements
  • Prepares both internal and external financial statements, footnotes, and audit schedules
  • Responsible for XBRL tagging of Form 10-Q and Form 10-K
  • Assists with providing accounting support to external auditors
  • Manages the Sarbanes-Oxley process, including updating internal documentation and managing Viracta’s SOX third party consultants and external auditors
  • Drives implementation of new internal control procedures, as required
  • Interacts with external audit firm on internal control audit process
  • Monitors compliance with SOX requirements on a monthly or quarterly basis, as required for each control
  • Assists with identifying process improvements, implementing changes, and ensuring best practices
  • Directly monitors clinical study and other key contracts to determine GAAP expense estimates for clinical trial and other contract accruals
  • Holds discussions with people outside of finance to ensure understanding and alignment between third party (contract) work being performed and the accounting impact of such work
  • Works with internal staff on account reconciliations and monitoring of accounts payable and payroll
  • Assists with accounting research, including assessment of technical accounting standards on corporate transactions or agreements
  • Interacts with external audit firm on financial statement audit process

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • CPA certification
  • Four to six years work experience; some public accounting experience is preferred
  • Strong technical accounting background
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Combination of public accounting / private industry experience is ideal
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Ability to thrive in a highly entrepreneurial, fast paced, and capital efficient environment
  • Strong written and communication skills; and an ability to work effectively with a diverse team of co-workers in a dynamic environment
