The Senior Manager, Cost Accounting (Sr Manager) is responsible for all day-to-day activities of cost accounting, product revenue recognition and Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) support of inventory. In addition, she/he is responsible for the full spectrum of invoicing, accounts receivable, inventory and General Ledger functions pertaining to the sale of commercially approved products. The Sr Manager acts as the liaison between the third-party logistics company, the manufacturing department and the finance department and assists with internal financial reporting functions and forecasting exercises.


These may include, but are not limited to:

  • Plan, organize and direct all the activities of the cost accounting function
  • Manage   day   to   day   operations   of   the   cost   accounting   function   from management of standard costs to month-end close and analysis
  • Oversee and supervise all responsibilities of cost accountant
  • Maintain and stream-line processes to cost units of inventory, including estimation processes for overhead components and tracking of direct costs
  • Will serve as a champion of change, utilizing systems capabilities to automate manual processes; lead implementation of a new ERP system as CMC finance SME
  • Maintain policies and procedures for all cost accounting activities
  • Account for and determine the appropriate revenue recognition for transactions to third parties involving product sales
  • Invoice product sales and ensure appropriate gross-to-net procedures
  • Design and maintain internal controls associated with the cost accounting and revenue recognition processes
  • Analyze variances and communication of issues and opportunities to operations management proactively
  • Develop metrics and tracking system for major cost drivers
  • Prepare budgets and forecasts for all working capital to understand cash needs for both short- and long-term planning
  • Leverage data  and analysis to influence and elevate decision making
  • Lead the budgeting/forecasting process with department heads/project leads to ensure financial information is provided on a regular basis in order to effectively manage the business
  • Provide proactive thought leadership and influence to business leads through insightful financial analytics; identify risks and partners with business to remediate
  • Develop presentations and analysis of budget performance and key business metrics
  • Drive build-out of management reporting capabilities; share best practices across finance organization
  • Interface with external auditors for review, audit and SOX control procedures


  • Schedule and attend, if necessary, annual inventory counts
  • Assist with internal and external financial reporting and analyses, including preparing financial statements and long range modeling, as appropriate
  • Assist with month-end close in other accounting areas, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with at least 8 years’ relevant experience in accounting and FP&A (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP
  • Previous experience mentoring, developing and leading team members
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to interact, communicate & influence effectively with multiple levels of internal and external customers/vendors
  • Proven ability to prioritize a heavy workload and perform efficiently in a fast-paced, fluid environment
  • Hands-on team player and with a can-do attitude
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to lead and work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to meet critical deadlines and have a strong sense of accountability for managing results in accordance with assigned goals


Equipment:      PC, scanners, facsimile machine, voice mail and e-mail systems, and common office machines, or ability to be trained.

Software Knowledge:  Windows, MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel). Knowledge of other software preferred: Great Plains Dynamics.


  • Interact with multiple levels of internal staff mainly Finance, Manufacturing, Commercial and functional G&A leads
  • Interact with third party logistics company, contract manufacturing organizations, contract clinical and research organizations, auditors and outside legal vendors


Physical Activities: On a continuous basis, sit at desk for a long period of time; intermittently answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Some walking and lifting up to 20 lbs. may be required. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Laboratory Activities, if applicable: Biology and chemical laboratory environments experience needed. Environmental health and safety requirements also apply.
