New ABFO Open Job Posting - Sr. Accountant, Mirati Therapeutics

Biocept, Inc. is a publicly traded, molecular oncology diagnostics company specializing in Circulating Tumor Cells (CTCs) and biomarker analysis, headquartered in San Diego, California.

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Accountant to join our Finance Team.  Responsibilities include performing monthly close procedures and account reconciliations, operating the accounting modules of Biocept’s ERP system, and assisting with the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements to be filed with the SEC.   The position requires the knowledge and skills typically acquired through 4-5 years of relevant experience in general corporate accounting and/or auditing corporate financial statements.  The position reports to the Senior Accounting Manager.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs monthly accounting close procedures, account reconciliations and addresses follow-up items as necessary.
  • Assists Controller with technical accounting matters including revenue recognition.
  • Executes administration of stock-based compensation and associated accounting.
  • Performs inventory analysis including costing and reserves.
  • Prepares and files sales tax returns on behalf of the Company.
  • Proficiently operates the accounting modules of Biocept’s ERP system.
  • Compiles information in the preparation of reports utilizing the company’s ERP system, Excel, billing system and stock compensation administration software.
  • Assists with the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements to be filed with the SEC, including the creation and maintenance of tie-out binders, application of GAAP to financial statements and footnotes as well as their preparation.
  • Collaborates with Accounts Payable and the Senior Accounting Manager to address any other accounting matters as needed.
  • Makes recommendations for improvements as needed.


  • BS degree or equivalent in Accounting.
  • 4-5 years relevant professional experience in general corporate accounting and/or auditing corporate financial statements.
  • Familiar with internal control procedures.
  • ERP system experience required.  QAD experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal/communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with a variety of personnel including scientific, commercial and operational staff.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to adhere to timelines.
  • Intermediate computer skills with the following programs: Excel, Outlook and Word.
