OVERVIEW

Palvella Therapeutics, Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company committed to serving patients with debilitating rare, genetic diseases through the development and commercialization of life-changing, pathogenetically targeted therapies. The Controller position is a unique career opportunity to be a member of an experienced and entrepreneurial leadership team that is focused on the development of treatments for serious, debilitating rare diseases that currently lack an approved therapy. Lead program PTX-022 is currently in a pivotal Phase 2/3 registrational study for Pachyonychia Congenita, a rare, chronically debilitating, and lifelong genetic disease for which there are no approved treatments. PTX-022 has been granted Fast Track Designation by the FDA.

POSITION DESCRIPTION - CONTROLLER

Responsible for the design, implementation, and management of accounting operations of a fast paced and growing Company. In addition, the position will be responsible for preparing reporting in a timely manner to the CFO. The Controller will be responsible for management of the general ledger (Quickbooks), financial audit, preparing financial reports and analyses. The Controller will work cross-functionally with the clinical and CMC team members to develop and execute strategies that support achievement of the Company’s goals. The Controller will report to the CFO and have significant exposure to the senior management team.

Specific Controller roles include:

  • Direct the accounting function and provide input and leadership on fiscal issues affecting the operations of the business.
  • Implementation of accounting policies, procedures and systems as required; ensure internal control procedures are adequate, properly documented and regularly reviewed.
  • Develop an efficient and timely closing process, in order to provide financial reports and analysis on a monthly, quarterly, and annual financial basis, in accordance with U.S. GAAP, both internally and to external partners.
  • Manage all accounting operations, including balance sheet reporting, cash management, accounts payable, contracts, and HHS grant invoicing/ reporting.
  • Manage the annual Plan process and maintain up-to-date financial model to ensure frequent understanding of the resource requirements and cash management.
  • Management and reporting of all project contracts and expenses associated with the clinical trial(s), CMC or preclinical, including all respective accruals.
  • Serve as the Palvella point of contact with the external auditors to drive an efficient and well run process for the audit for the Company.
  • Understanding and support of equity accounting, including the implementation of equity system and processes, and support of the 409A process.
  • Coordinate the preparation and timely submission of all relevant corporate tax filings in accordance with federal, state, and local tax requirements, including all income, employer, and use taxes.
  • Management and tracking of all contracts and CDAs.
  • Management of the Company insurance policies and annual renewal process.
  • Involvement with IT and HR activities, when required. Preparation of ad-hoc analyses and projects as assigned by senior management.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/ CANDIDATE CAPABILITIES
Technical

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of professional accounting and finance experience required.
  • Recent experience in the life sciences industry with a small or emerging growth company is required.
  • Possess a strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and public reporting requirements.
  • Experience with HHS government contracts, including reporting and processing, a strong plus.
  • Experience in preparing, presenting and executing operating plans and forecasts.
  • Proven communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to present data in a straight-forward manner to a variety of audiences.
  • Strong computer and accounting systems skills, including Quickbooks and Excel are required. Strong Power Point and equity management system skills, a plus.

COMPENSATION
Full-time position with an annual compensation package commensurate with experience.
