Job Summary

Inovio Pharmaceuticals is seeking an Accounting Manager to lead the Accounts Payable and Payroll teams. In addition, the Accounting Manager prepares various month end closing journal entries related to accounts payable and payroll.

Essential job functions and duties

  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process, including of the preparation of various journal entries and account reconciliations related to AP and payroll.
  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounts payable team.  Ensure the accuracy of accounts payable batches and review all vendor invoices for appropriate account coding prior to posting. 
  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounts payable to ensure that vendors are paid timely.
  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the payroll functions. Ensure payroll changes are consistent with the support provided by the Human Resources department and payroll is processed timely.
  • Supervise Senior Accountant, and Accounts Payable Clerks.
  • Coordinate with the Assistant Controller in preparation of deliverables for our quarterly review and year-end audits.  This includes preparing audit schedules and pulling audit selection support.
  • Ensure proper adherence and documentation of internal controls in accordance with Sarbanes Oxley and COSO framework; specifically for the areas of accounts payable and payroll.
  • Collaborate with Senior Accounting Management to support overall department objectives, including the establishment and implementation of proper accounting methods, policies, and principles.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business with an emphasis in accounting required.
  • 5 years finance and accounting experience with a mix of public and corporate accounting. Biotech industry experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience with direct reports.
  • Strong skills with Excel Spreadsheets and MS Word.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and recent accounting trends.
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy of work performed.
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Ability to direct and supervise staff of varying skill levels and experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from Assistant Controller to accomplish objectives.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving, and results.
