Accounting Manager

Scribe Therapeutics is a molecular engineering company focused on creating best-in-class in vivo therapies that permanently treat the underlying cause of disease. Founded by CRISPR inventors and leading molecular engineers Benjamin Oakes, Brett Staahl, David Savage, and Jennifer Doudna, Scribe is overcoming the limitations of current genome editing technologies by developing custom engineered enzymes and delivery modalities as part of a proprietary, evergreen CRISPR by Design™ platform for CRISPR-based genetic medicine.

We are seeking a driven, detail oriented finance and accounting professional who will lead the accounting operations function at Scribe ensuring accuracy of the Company’s accounting and financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and internal control policies.

The Accounting Manager will own all aspects of general ledger accounting including managing the work of our accountant and accounts payable professionals. In addition, this role will assist in the creation and maintenance of accounting policies and internal controls as well as the preparation of internal and external financial statements and disclosures. We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a fast paced environment and who will be able to grow with the Company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage Scribe’s operational accounting processes, including accounts payable, payroll, cash management, lease accounting and stock based compensation
  • Lead and manage the month end close process, including preparation of manual journal entries for leasing, accruals, equity and leasing as well as reviewing all entries prepared by the accountant
  • Prepare and review balance sheet account reconciliations as part of month end close activities
  • Review the work of the accountant and accounts payable specialist in the preparation of all close entries such as cash book entries, fixed asset entries, prepaid expenses, payroll accruals, investment and other period end close entries
  • Formalize and maintain control documentation, policies and processes for all financial processes
  • Support the procurement and accounts payable functions, ensuring accurate account coding and issuance of purchase orders in accordance with company policies
  • Provision of financing information to teams upon request
  • Prepare fluctuation analysis at the end of each period
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA or equivalent preferred
  • 4+ years accounting experience
  • Knowledge of NetSuite or equivalent ERP systems
  • Exceptional analytical problem solving and organizational skills
  • Technical accounting and financial reporting experience and a strong knowledge of US
    GAAP with ability to perform accounting research independently
  • Advanced excel skills
  • Experience in development, maintenance and executing financial reporting controls;
    SOX experience a plus
  • Ability to manage competing priorities
