New ABFO Member Company Open Job Posting, Alector, Director, SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting

We are seeking a Director, SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting as a key member of our high performing finance team, reporting to the Corporate Controller. You will own the SEC Reporting process. You will also work on technical accounting memos, stock plan administration, and assist with various month-end close processes, including collaboration revenue. 

During the first year, your goals will include:

  • Manage the timely and accurate filing of the Company’s external SEC financial reporting filings (e.g., 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K)
  • Remain current with new technical accounting standards. Prepare technical accounting memorandums for significant transactions and support the review process with management and external auditors.
  • Prepare the quarterly revenue recognition schedules for our collaboration agreements with partners.
  • Manage the stock compensation accounting function, including the processing of equity grants, administration of the ESPP Plan, and review of stock compensation expense reconciliations and equity footnote disclosures.
  • Supervise the work of at least one direct report.
  • Assist with the SOX internal control function and working closely with the internal and external auditors to provide requested support and answer questions.
  • Review financial statements and variance analysis, including monthly trends, budget vs. actual, and other fluctuation analysis.
  • Support the requirements of the annual audit and quarterly reviews through preparation of audit schedules and other support requested by the internal and external auditors.
  • Work cross functionally with legal, people team, research, manufacturing, and other various business owners as well as external consultants.
  • Provide support and assist with special projects, system improvements, or ad-hoc financial requests. 

We’d love to hear from you if:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • CPA or equivalent
  • 8+ years of relevant experience from public accounting and/or finance
  • Strong technical accounting background with a knowledge of US GAAP, SOX 404 and SEC reporting standards, as well as experience with technical research and XBRL tagging Detailed and results oriented and able to stay self-motivated
  • Ability to be flexible and work analytically in a problem-solving environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge/Experience with NetSuite, Equity Edge, and Active Disclosure a plus
  • Experience with biotechnology companies preferred
  • Limited travel required (approximately 15%)
