We are integrating human genetics and functional genomics to decode the mysteries of genetic modifiers, leading us to new medicines we’ll develop for a range of severe diseases.

We are seeking a driven and experienced leader who will manage, expand and grow Maze’s accounting organization. The Corporate Controller will be responsible for overseeing all accounting activities, including payroll operations, equity administration, internal controls, tax and establishing best in class processes and procedures for a quickly growing organization. The successful candidate will have public company experience with the ability to design and prepare the organization for IPO and SEC reporting requirements thereafter. This leader will be a strong finance partner to all functions and levels. The Corporate Controller we seek is passionate about technology and systems, excited to maximize our systems to oversee the financial infrastructure at Maze.  

Reporting to the VP, Finance, the Controller will be a key leader of the business operations team and will serve as finance partner to senior leaders.

Your Role in Navigating the Maze:

  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting of Maze’s financial statements, including comprehensive financial controls designed to mitigate risk and ensure compliance with GAAP
  • Oversee GL close process and preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements
  • Lead team to manage the payroll, accounts payable, and purchasing process
  • Manage, develop, and foster a high performing team to grow and scale with the company
  • Partner with FP&A to develop financial reporting package, including financial statement analysis, variance reporting, and other business insights to inform management
  • Coordinate with external auditors during quarterly review and annual audit
  • Lead the development of internal controls in anticipation of SOX compliance
  • Manage equity accounting, stock option reporting, stock administration and related analyses
  • Responsible for maintaining the company’s insurance coverage (property, liability, D&O etc.)
  • Oversee all tax compliance and take the lead on tax strategy
  • Provide sound financial guidance and advice across the business, from purchasing decisions to payment terms
  • Take lead on development of the S-1 and preparing the organization for IPO
  • Oversee preparation and filing of all SEC reporting, 10Ks, 10Qs and proxy statements (as needed)

Your Navigation Tools:

  • CPA with Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting, or business and 10+ years finance and biotechnology experience required
  • Experience working with Coupa and Netsuite is highly preferred
  • Demonstrated SEC financial reporting experience required; public company experience is required
  • Experience working for a reputable accounting firm is preferred; experience going through an IPO is preferred
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, IFRS and both day to day and technical accounting a must
  • Strong planning and forward-looking skills with the ability to develop what we’ll need 2-3 years down the road
  • An adaptive, urgent and flexible approach that is tailored to a small company where you will collaborate with all functions
  • Demonstrated hands-on leadership qualities are essential, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent analytical, communication and presentation skills are required.
  • Excitement and enthusiasm to mentor and lead the accounting department that you’re proud to lead
