The Opportunity

At insitro, we are combining human biology and machine learning to discover and develop new medicines. The heart of our strategy is to produce and integrate large data sets that will enable machine learning to yield key biological insights. This strategy requires a seamless, robust, and effective operation that simultaneously spans multiple projects, some partnered and some in-house. 

Reporting to the CFO/CBO, we are seeking a highly experienced strategic finance leader with a wide range of financial modeling expertise for biotechs and the Life Science industry.  This role requires strong financial acumen, best in class data analysis, an ability to structure complex problems, and to work through pros and cons to drive scenario planning to support internal and external corporate finance initiatives.  Further, this role is highly collaborative and we are seeking an exceptional leader to partner with our Executive and Leadership Team, Finance, and Corporate Development, as well as our scientists, engineers and operational colleagues.     

 Your primary duties will be:

Corporate Finance (Forecasting, Planning and Analysis, Cash and Treasury Management)

- Own the annual budget, latest estimate / forecast and long-range planning process
- Communicate plans, present results and ensure alignment is achieved throughout the organization
- Develop monthly and quarterly business reviews with Executive and Leadership Team members regarding actual variances against budget
- Lead the alignment on risks, opportunities and trade-offs
- Manage and analyze (on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis) liquidity, cash concentration and cash forecasting
- Work with Treasury partners to optimize our investment portfolio
- Partner with Accounting to align on timing of corporate results, analytics and manage all Treasury / Asset Management relationships
- Support preparation of BOD meeting materials
- Champion and assist with the implementation of the Financial Planning System to drive adoption throughout the organization
- Manage the FP&A team and build and lead a team to support company growth

Strategic Finance (Valuation, Scenario and Decision Analysis)

- Build and own the insitro Long Range plan with full historical integration with the ERP and Financial Planning System and forward looking projection for continued company build and advancement of R&D activities toward, and into, the clinic
- Build and manage company valuation model (including value per share) that is used as a basis for our long-term planning and investor communications
- Partner with Corporate Development and Strategy colleagues to map out range of growth, forecast, and valuation scenarios and enable scenario planning at the Leadership, Executive and Board level 
- Collaborate and support Corporate Development activities by building out financial analyses for market assessment and make recommendations for deal structuring and negotiations, present pros and cons   
- As the company matures, partner with IR on sell side analyst interactions regarding company value trajectory and value inflection milestones
- Assist with ad-hoc reporting and analyses to support business decision-making by working closely with Corporate Development and the Executive Team

About You

- Bachelor degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field; CFA or MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred   
- 10+ years of experience in a pharma or biotech environment along with investment banking, management consulting, public or private equities sell side experience
- Direct career experience in DCF asset valuation in biotech or pharma, SOTP company valuation, and 3-statement financial modeling 
- Exceptional financial modeling skills, reporting metrics and presentation in Excel, Thinkcell, G-Sheets and G-Slides
- Experience with FP&A systems (Anaplan, Oracle EPM) and Oracle CloudRole model leader, excellent communicator (verbally and written) and strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent project management skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional leaders and others in the company
- Understanding of capital markets - both public and private
- Deep understanding of finance and financial business drivers in biotech
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, a highly analytical and inquisitive work style coupled with a keen attention to detail -- while retaining the ability to see the big picture
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop a shared understanding of the direction of the business across it most critical metrics
