Title: Senior Accountant
Reporting to: Assistant Controller
Location: Redwood City, CA

Position Summary:

In this role, you will contribute to the general ledger accounting functions/processes, including accruals for outside service providers, payroll accounting, cash and other account reconciliations. This role also contributes to month and quarter-end internal reporting. As a Pre-IPO company, it is an exciting time at Tranquis as we develop the roadmap for the IPO. You will assist in establishing process firsts as we continue to grow and evolve as a company. We are looking for a highly capable, responsible, detail-oriented individual who will exercise independent problem-solving skills, advocate best practices, and roll up your sleeves to pitch in when it’s all hands on deck. The Senior Accountant will be highly organized, experienced in account analysis and reconciliations and have prior experience accounting for complex accrual and estimate models. Our ideal candidate will have a proven track record in financial accounting and strong understanding of internal controls, has worked in a fast-paced environment, is adaptable to change, and is capable of helping to create and operate controlled scalable processes.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for full-cycle AP workflow including communications with vendors and internal business partners
  • Oversee employee reimbursements and credit card programs by reviewing out of pocket expenses and categorizing monthly corporate credit card spending
  • Ensure consistent expense categorization by maintaining a master tracker of all vendors, GL categories, and business owners/approvers
  • Prepare and issue annual 1099s
  • Serve as a liaison on all AP inquiries and communications between non-accounting personnel including invoice approval, reimbursement policies, etc.
  • Prepare accurate journal entries and general ledger account reconciliations on a timely basis for a number of general ledger accounts. Specific account responsibilities may shift over time depending on needs, capabilities and your interests as we continue to grow and evolve over time.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate review and posting of month-end close Accounting transactions
  • Execute the monthly-close process and preparation of monthly financial reporting packages for management review
  • Balance sheet and P&L account analysis, review, reconciliation & resolution
  • Consistently maintain appropriate internal controls and uphold company policies & procedures
  • Interact successfully with external auditors and support interim and year-end audits by providing timely & accurate data and communication
  • Track the major contracts and evaluate with the project managers the status of the projects at month - end and support the monthly accrual process.
  • Assist with updating controls including assessing any control gaps and changes in processes
  • Adhoc Accounting analysis schedules and reconciliations as requested

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related discipline, CPA is a plus
  • Minimum 5 years of related accounting and finance experience in a public company, preferably with biotech industry experience
  • Start-up or high-growth company experience a plus
  • Experience preparing financial statements for a public company a plus
  • Strong systems skills including systems implementation experience. Prior experience utilizing systems to improve efficiency and accuracy of financial results. Experience with Quickbooks, NetSuite or a major ERP, Commercial Banking platforms, Bill.com, Expensify, ACH/Positive Pay, TriNet or a major Payroll system
  • Superior attention to detail and strong organizational skills; strong process improvement and problem-solving skills
  • Proven success working well under pressure, highly organized with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Seeks out new ideas, sees innovation and reforms as a chance to actively shape change
  • Strong Excel expertise
  • Experience in SOX compliance requirements
  • Approaches contacts in a collegial way and quickly builds up stable professional relationships
  • Characterized by very strong communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment and clearly communicate deviating standpoints with respect
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and embrace progressive change
