The VP, Controller will oversee and manage all financial and accounting functions including: management and board reporting; oversight of auditors and tax consultants; and preparation of budgets and forecasts.    

The VP, Controller will have responsibility for financial management of the entire business reporting directly to the CFO and CEO. We seek a hard-working, team player who will interact collaboratively with the entire management team and play a key role in implementing our financial management processes across our organization, including working with finance team members in China and Taiwan.


  • Direct worldwide functional accounting, including:
    • setting/managing goals for Controller activities on a worldwide basis,
    • with senior management, leading the worldwide budget, forecasting and analysis
    • managing/supervising quarterly and monthly accounting close and reporting,
    • design and implementation of internal controls,
    • coordination of audit and audit-related activities and
    • coordination of tax compliance and reporting.
  • Establish and maintain financial policies and procedures related to business processes, risk management and internal controls. Assess the financial implications of new accounting pronouncements.
  • Effectively communicate these policies and procedures throughout the organization, ensuring a close collaboration with internal functional groups to match business needs and efficiencies with appropriate financial controls.
  • Lead liaison for auditors for annual audit, quarterly reviews and internal control reporting, ensuring effective coordination to deliver high quality and timely information to the financial reporting process with
    • Accounting,
    • Exchange reporting,
    • Corporate Finance/FP&A and
    • Treasury
  • Working with IT and other functional areas, serve as key leader in ensuring financial and enterprise resource planning systems are designed and implemented.
  • Manage the accounting for the US and the Australian subsidiary.


  • Support fundraising efforts completing necessary reports, analysis and documents to be presented to potential investors.
  • Support preparation of financial board decks to present to board members and investors at board meetings.
  • Manage company’s option-based incentive plan.
  • Manage all financial functions, including payroll, accounting, contract negotiation, appropriate controls, processes and financial systems.
  • Manage tax returns and tax provision with external tax advisors.
  • Review, research, determine and document the accounting implications of major transactions, including coordination with functional area leads and legal to review and approve major corporate contracts.
  • Provide accounting and business expertise to corporate development transactions, including collaboration agreements.
  • Manage treasury activities.


  • Expertise in the areas of corporate accounting, controls, SEC and tax – prior public biopharma company experience is preferred, as well as prior audit management within a public accounting firm.
  • Experience with enterprise resource system implementation and management in a fast-growing company.
  • Significant relevant experience and demonstrated leadership in Finance, demonstrated success in staff development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – fluency in Mandarin Chinese is highly desirable
  • Must be hands on, detailed oriented, self-driven and goal-oriented, and able to multi-task to achieve results.
  • A strong desire to collaborate on a cross-functional basis to ensure achievement of our corporate goals and objectives.


Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Management and Licensed CPA in California are highly preferred.  MBA is desirable.
