POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Manager, SEC Reporting manages the external financial reporting function for the company, including, but not limited to, all SEC and regulatory financial reporting. The role is the technical expert on accounting guidance within the Company. The position is also responsible for managing the preparation, and review of annual tax provision and returns, as well as, equity related calculations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the external financial reporting function, including SEC reporting and other regulatory reporting as required, managing the internal and external review of these documents
  • Participate in the preparation of quarterly earnings releases
  • Create and maintain the SEC reporting calendar
  • Monitor and ensure timely identification of and compliance with evolving accounting guidance; provide GAAP interpretation and document issues in a clear, logical and comprehensive manner
  • Research and document accounting and financial reporting requirements using all available tools, recommending accounting treatment for complex transactions based on such research
  • Assist in managing communications with external auditors on external financial statements and accounting issues to ensure auditor alignment
  • Assist in the coordination and support of the annual audit and quarterly review activity
  • Coordinate preparation of, and perform detailed review of annual tax provision, 382 tax analyses, and annual state tax returns
  • Assist with designing, implementing and enforcing internal control policies and guidelines to meet company and Sarbanes-Oxley internal control compliance requirements
  • Perform quarterly impairment analysis and prepare related documentation
  • Perform review of certain month-end journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Assist with preparation of certain quarterly equity financial schedules, including stock capitalization, share based compensation, and earnings per share calculations
  • Assist in the production of financial statements, monthly reports for line manager meetings, and financial review meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Excellent understanding of US GAAP and SEC Reporting requirements
  • Understanding of internal controls and proper supporting documentation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • PC literacy required; MSOffice skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Track record of taking initiative to resolve issues
  • Ability to manage concurrent multiple projects and activities and adapt to change
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Communication & Interpersonal Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively collaborate in a dynamic environment and develop productive relationships with external vendors

REQUIREMENTS
Education

  • BA/BS in Business, Accounting or related degree

Experience

  • 8+ years of work experience (combination of public accounting and industry/corporate), including at least 2 years of SEC reporting experience (experience in Pharmaceutical/Biotech industry desired)
  • Strong technical accounting background
  • Experience with auditing and/or supporting the preparation of SEC Reports
  • Experience with ERP’s and accounting systems

Licenses or Certifications

  • CPA Certification

TRAVEL, PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Regularly required to operate standard office equipment (personal computer, photocopy machine, etc.)
  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Regularly required to sit for long periods of time, and occasionally stand and walk.
  • Regularly required to use hands to operate computer and other office equipment.
  • Close vision required for computer usage.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Include travel requirements, if applicable.

POTENTIAL ADDITIONS

  • Assist with the documentation, implementation and maintenance of corporate accounting policies and procedures, including international subsidiaries regarding corporate–wide programs.
  • Prepare and review financing-based transactions including stock-based compensation, debt financing, and other financing events.
  • Prepare quarterly reconciliation for significant accounts, such as stock-based compensation-related calculations and resulting journal entries, as needed
  • Perform all technical accounting research and prepare technical accounting memos for significant contracts, transactions and implementation of new accounting standards.
