Reports to: Senior Vice President, Accounting
Location: Redwood City, CA
Classification: Exempt


The Executive Director, Accounting will be responsible for overseeing all facets of operational accounting, including internal controls, monthly close, ERP systems, treasury, insurance, payroll and stock administration, risk management and compliance, and policy development and implementation. This role will partner closely with key stakeholders across the organization, and have the opportunity to streamline and optimize processes and systems.


  • Lead, mentor and develop accounting team.
  • Hire and effectively integrate new positions to support company growth.
  • Manage relationship with external auditors and oversee the annual audit and quarterly review process.
  • Manage timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results.
  • Support external financial reporting function, including statutory reporting (10-Q, 10-K, Proxy, etc) as needed.
  • Collaborate with FP&A and Commercial teams to ensure the accounting for inventory balances and expenses is accurate; analyses are thorough and insightful; and relevant processes are documented and well-integrated.
  • Manage the company's 401k plan committee and related annual review of fund performance.
  • Oversee the implementation of the ERP and other financial systems and sponsor additional system implementations as required.
  • Manage insurance policies including annual renewal of D&O and other corporate insurance.


  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related field required.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of increasing responsibility in accounting or finance.
  • Experience working in a publicly traded company required.
  • Experience in a commercial-stage pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical, preferred..
  • Comprehensive expertise in accounting operations and internal controls with knowledge of US GAAP
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are required.
  • Excellent Excel spreadsheet skills and proficiency with Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to proactively identify and solve problems.
  • Ability to work independently with good judgment and high integrity.
  • A proven track record of identifying, managing and developing talented team members.
  • Process and systems improvement mindset for creating solutions to problems that work across boundaries beyond this role.
