Vaxart, Inc.  is seeking a Corporate Controller with prior experience in a fast-growing public company. The ideal candidate will have experience producing financial statements and managing controls in a clinical stage life science company with international operations.

Candidate Profile:

This individual will be able to manage processes and systems to achieve an effective environment of financial controls that is supportive of the overall business. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated the ability to design, communicate, and manage financial reporting processes across several international subsidiaries. Reporting to the Vice President, Finance and Principal Accounting Officer, the Corporate Controller will interface with all members of the company’s leadership team and with all company functional areas, including manufacturing, R&D, quality, and clinical. She or he will be energized by the opportunity to understand the overall business and help Vaxart, Inc.  achieve broader strategic business objectives.

Responsibilities:

As a key member of the Finance leadership team, this person will be responsible for all aspects of the accounting close process, payroll, equity, financial statement production and SEC reporting. This person will manage the Director of SEC Reporting and the Accounting Manager and their respective teams.  The Corporate Controller will work closely with the company’s outside auditor and the internal audit team to refine and support an effective environment of financial reporting and controls. Duties include:

• Manage timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial accounting results through the close and consolidation process.
• Lead the relationship with our independent auditors; manage the annual audit and quarterly review process.
• Lead the external financial reporting function, including SEC reporting and reporting to other regulatory authorities in multiple jurisdictions worldwide.
• Develop, maintain, and enforce technical accounting policies and procedures in accordance with US GAAP.
• Ensure Sarbanes-Oxley 404 (b) compliance. Implement appropriate internal controls.
• Manage, mentor, and develop a high performing, professional team.
• Help to set a “tone at the top” that stresses ethics, integrity, and good governance.
• Manage the optimization of the financial systems (NetSuite, Payroll and Equity Edge).

Professional Experience / Skills:

• CPA and experience preparing financial statements for SEC public company required
• Big 4 Audit experience
• BA/BS minimum education
• 15+ years of experience in positions of increasing responsibility
• Prior roles in a publicly traded life science or high technology company
• NetSuite and Equity Edge experience
• Implementation and optimization of financial system
• Attention to detail and highly organized
• Unquestionable integrity and judgment
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and good independent judgment
• A proven track record of identifying and developing talented team members
• Exceptional communications skills
