The Opportunity

At insitro, we are combining human biology and machine learning to discover and develop new therapeutics. The heart of our strategy is to produce large data sets that will drive machine learning and yield key biological insights. This strategy requires a seamless, robust, and effective operation that simultaneously spans multiple projects, some partnered and some in-house.

Reporting to the Controller / VP, Finance, we are seeking an experienced, collaborative and versatile (Senior) Accounting Manager to join our growing Accounting Team.  In this role, you will be overseeing all operational accounting, including and not limited to, managing the general ledger transactions and financial statements, managing accounts payable, preparing payroll and stock administration, audit preparation and assisting with an ERP implementation.  You will have the opportunity to work cross-functionally and support our scientists, engineers, and operational colleagues.  Further, you will implement “best in class” accounting policies and tools to streamline and support our rapid company growth.  

Your primary duties will be:

  • Manage the monthly close process, including preparation / review of journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Manage Accounting Payable - Ensure proper approval of invoices in compliance with our purchase authorization matrix and resolve escalated issues and inquiries 
  • Prepare and file 1099s, property tax, use tax and ensure compliance with all other IRS regulations and filings 
  • Process payroll and responsible for reporting and compliance
  • Process stock administration and ensure accuracy and timeliness of recording and reporting of all equity award activities 
  • Prepare monthly financials and executive close summary of results
  • Assist with the transition of accounting activities from an external consulting company to in-house 
  • Assist with ERP and expense reporting implementation and other accounting systems and tools
  • Assist with implementing and monitoring accounting policies, procedures and SOX compliance
  • Be a mentor and leader to staff by providing guidance, support and training 
  • Participate in special projects and perform other related duties as assigned

About You

  • Bachelor degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field  
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience 
  • Private and/or public biotech or life science experience
  • CPA certification with “Big 4” public accounting experience 
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and experience with SEC regulations
  • ERP system implementation experience preferred
  • Experience using Gusto or similar payroll system and Carta or similar equity administration system
  • Strong Excel skills and ability to work in G-Suite
  • Organized and strong attention to detail with an ability to simultaneously research discrepancies and solve problems
  • Effective communicator with good verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional leaders and others in the company
  • Ability to work independently with general direction and guidance
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in an ever changing environment
