About Audentes Therapeutics

Audentes Therapeutics, An Astellas Company, is developing genetic medicines for patients with rare, life-threatening diseases. Based on our innovative approach to developing genetic medicines, as well as our industry-leading internal manufacturing capability and expertise, we have become the Astellas Center of Excellence for their newly created Genetic Regulation Focus Area. The Role

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Finance, the Executive Director of Finance will play a key leadership role enabling Audentes’ success through an exciting period of explosive growth and commercial product launch.  The Executive Director of Finance will build a world-class FP&A organization, drive strategy-setting and operational planning, implement robust processes and systems, partner closely with business leaders to drive positive business performance, while meeting requirements of key stakeholders.
The position will be based in our San Francisco headquarters.

Primary Responsibilities  


  • Lead and develop a high-performing FP&A organization by developing / implementing financial strategies, identifying / directing appropriate resources, and attracting, coaching, developing and retaining top talent
  • Set team objectives, measure performance, reprioritize, and steer team to deliver on key initiatives
  • Maintain overall management responsibilities and leadership for the company's FP&A organization in meeting corporate goals and objectives while maintaining compliance with applicable policies and regulations

Financial Processes:

  • Establish world-class planning and reporting processes, systems and methodologies, including application of KPIs, benchmarks, cost models and best practices to drive improved business performance
  • Responsible for Audentes key financial deliverables including monthly and quarterly management reporting, quarterly forecasts, annual budget and corporate strategic plan
  • Implement valuation methodologies that support senior management decision-making (e.g. clinical development and capital expenditure milestone approvals)
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to meet necessary policies and deliverables

Business Partnering:

  • Partner with R&D to develop cost and FTE models, benchmarks, and financial processes that facilitate efficient operations and optimal resource allocation
  • In partnership with Commercial, enable product launch readiness.  Establish necessary US and International financial processes, such as: revenue recognition, gross to net, pricing strategy, sales reserves, distribution, international transfer pricing, etc.  Enable international commercial expansion.
  • In partnership with Technical Operations, manage product cost and capital expenditures while identifying continuous productivity improvements

About you

Must Have/Required

  • BS in Finance, Business or related discipline with 15+ years combined financial planning and analysis, corporate finance and/or consulting experience
  • At least 7 years proven success building and leading teams through strong managerial experience, cultivating a high-performance organization; effective as a mentor and coach; able to attract, develop, motivate and retain key talent
  • Strong innovator as a strategic business partner with ability to accurately anticipate future consequences and trends 
  • Outstanding financial acumen with the strategic business acumen necessary to bring ideas forward successfully
  • Strong systems and process understanding, with ability to advice and guide organization
  • Leads by example and models collaborative behavior by soliciting opinions, coupled with the ability to make key decisions and be effective in getting the team behind decisions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills; strong presentation skills
  • Interacts and communicates openly and effectively with the internal team, auditors, partners and colleagues
  • Demonstrated self-starter and team player with strong interpersonal skills: Adept, nimble, energetic and comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic and collaborative environment.
  • Capable of taking a hands-on approach and willing to "roll up one's sleeves"
  • Travel up to 20%, including internationally

May Have/Preferred

  • MBA, CFA or similar is strongly preferred
  • International commercial finance experience in pharma or biotech industry
  • Experience in an IFRS and Oracle Fusion ERP environment would be beneficial
