Audentes Therapeutics, An Astellas Company, is developing genetic medicines for patients with rare, life-threatening diseases. The Role

The Procurement Operations Manager plays a vital role in our Finance Department.  The Procurement Operations Manager will be responsible for indirect procurement activities at Audentes and managing and leading a small Procurement team.  Responsibilities which include overseeing the daily operations of the Procurement function and serve as a hands-on leader that understands and performs daily tactical and strategic functions. This role will partner closely with Accounts Payable, FP&A, Supply Chain, and Legal to smoothly integrate with the invoicing and contracting processes.  This position reports to the Director of Indirect Procurement.

The ideal candidate has proven management, procurement operations, and purchasing experience from a related industry. To be successful, the incumbent will be highly process and detail oriented, able to collaborate and communicate with key business partners, and possess outstanding technical skills with an attitude that fits our #GSD (Get Stuff Done) culture. The position will be based in our San Francisco office, with regular travel to our South San Francisco offices.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Managing Day-to-Day Procurement Operations Activities
    • Monitor, direct, and assist with day-to-day procurement operations activities in order to accomplish department goals
    • Perform Supplier Master maintenance such as supplier inactivation, supplier setup, cleansing of supplier master records.
    • Ensure timely resolution of Procure to Pay Issues
    • Review existing contracts with suppliers and vendors to ensure on-going feasibility
  • Process Improvement & Projects
    • Identify and drive efforts to reduce service errors, increase efficiency, mature our controls environment, and reduce operational risk
    • Prepare procurement reports such as metrics and aging, Open PO, After-the-Fact POs, etc. to analyze and strategize approach to assist with areas of performance and improvement
    • Drive implementation and adoption of key procurement technologies and supporting tools required to support operational procurement
    • Develop procurement strategies that are inventive and cost-effective
    • Make suggestions based on best practice for procedural and policy revisions
  • Coaching and Mentoring Team
    • Provide leadership and oversight of Procurement team to educate and train on delivering exceptional customer service, operational efficiency, technical skills, and so forth
    • Set goals and objectives that lead to increasing levels of delivery and maturity for the operations team
  • Training
    • Develop, revise, and deliver training materials to help educate and train Procurement team, Finance team, Departments, and Suppliers
  • Building Collaborative Relationships
    • Build and maintain strong relationships throughout the organization (e.g., Accounts Payables, Supply Chain, Legal, and other departments) and with suppliers
    • Negotiating with supplier and vendors to secure advantageous terms.

About you

  • Excellent and effective written, verbal communication and presentation skills
  • 7+ finance experience including 5 years leading and managing a team
  • Strong people management skills with proven ability and enthusiasm to lead, motivate, inspire, develop, and encourage staff
  • Ability to build strong relationships and networks with multiple functions and at the leadership levels
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking
  • Comprehensive understanding of PO process, policies, and order to payment technologies
  • BA/BS in Procurement Management/Business or related field
  • Experience with Oracle Fusion or comparable ERP/e-Procurement systems
  • Comfort/familiarity with constructing presentations, organization communications, and business cases

  • MBA or Procurement certification such as CPPM
  • Experience with rare diseases, neuromuscular diseases and/or gene therapy products
  • Experience working for a Biotech or Pharmaceutical company with a manufacturing facility
  • Experience in a small company and high growth, fast-paced environment
