The Role

The Senior Manager, Cost Accountant position reports directly to the Vice President, Corporate Controller and plays a key role on the Audentes Finance team.  The candidate will play a key role in the development, implementation and maintenance of labor and overhead allocation, product and inventory accounting, cost analysis, while partnering with other key functional areas such as Manufacturing and Supply chain to implement new processes as the Company prepares for commercialization.  The ideal candidate has proven operational experience from companies with commercial product(s) within the biotech or related industries. 

The candidate will manage the day-to-day cost accounting operations and the financial close and reporting process related to costing, ensure the delivery of timely and accurate financial information that can be relied on by the organization to help drive ongoing financial decisions.

This is a highly visible role, working cross-functionally and partnering closely with Operation, Finance and IT team to deliver accounting solutions that support business needs.

To be successful, the incumbent will be a strong people leader, collaborator, communicator, project/process manager.   The position will be based in both our South San Francisco office and San Francisco office.

Responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Lead the development of costing method/process for new products and for labor and overhead allocation, ensure compliance with applicable accounting guidance (IFRS)
  • Drive and maintain establishment of bill of material, product routings, material, labor and overhead costs
  • Plan, collect, and analyze data to drive the standard cost revaluation processes; implement cost update periodically
  • Manage costing process, establish standard costs for new inventory items and update standard cost as appropriate
  • Participate in all financial cycle close, prepare journal entries related to cost allocation, inventory adjustments, and reserves analysis, analyze and reconcile key inventory related accounts
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly reporting related to costing and inventory
  • Prepare COGS calculations and analysis as needed
  • Report and analyze cost variances to the standard, help identify cost saving opportunities
  • Coordinates inventory related activities including cycle count and physical inventory.
  • Assist in developing processes and utilizing systems enhancements to ensure inventory control and the accuracy of inventory data.
  • Ensure internal controls related to inventory costing process are in compliance
  • Implement changes to improve process efficiency as needed
  • Ad hoc analysis/reporting and project as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or related discipline
  • 7+ years in inventory accounting, proficient understanding of accounting principles, and a minimum of 4 years cost accounting experience
  • Month-end close, reconciliation and reporting experience
  • Experience with actual and standard costing methods
  • Experience with biotech/pharma or process manufacturing environment
  • Ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, multi-task, and work independently, and execute objectives without supervision
  • Ability to succinctly communicate complex information (written and verbal) across departments
  • Understand of functional area roles, responsibilities and interdependencies
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite tools and ERP systems
  • Demonstrated success initiating and leading cross-functional projects to successful completion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, CPA a plus
  • Proficient with Oracle Fusion ERP
  • Experience with commercial product launch in the biotech or pharma industry
  • Cost experience with in-house manufacturing highly desirable
  • Experience in a high growth environment, able to quickly traverse between strategic and detail-oriented operational topics.
