SUMMARY

Invitae is seeking a motivated and results-oriented candidate to join our Finance team as a Senior Accountant based in San Francisco, CA. This position will be a key player in the financial close process to ensure its accuracy, integrity, and timeliness. This person will perform assigned month-end closing activities such as journal entries, account reconciliations, and analyses. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated problem solver with strong teamwork skills and a desire to drive change. This position will be part of an integrated team that believes that collaboration, flexibility, resourcefulness and attention to detail are the keys to success.  The Senior Accountant role provides an opportunity to develop a meaningful skillset and to continuously take on increasingly complex challenges in a growth environment.  

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Be responsible for accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close procedures for certain key balance sheet and income statement accounts, including preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals and analyses. These accounts may include but are not limited to leases, investments, payroll, equity, SBC, M&A, debt, revenue, use-tax, allocations, consolidation, and purchase requisition review 
  • Support the Finance team in enhancing the Company’s existing accounting procedures and internal controls and seek opportunities to improve accounting operational efficiency and effectiveness
  • Play an integral role in mentoring, training, and supporting junior team members
  • Prepare audit schedules for quarter-end and year-end as necessary
  • Support for ad-hoc projects as required

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Four plus years of experience with increasing levels of responsibility; big four experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting 
  • CPA Designation completed or in process
  • Fluency in Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of 2013 COSO framework and experience applying the framework in a manner that supports SOX compliance and operational efficiencies is a must
  • Self-motivated, deadline driven and results oriented; a problem solver with strong teamwork skills and strong desire to drive change
  • Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, and presentation skills that allow effective interactions and communications across functional areas
  • Experience with Intacct or other mid-market ERP systems a plus 
  • Experience in life science industry or diagnostic segment a plus
