The Role

The Director, Corporate Accounting position reports directly to the Vice President, Corporate Controller and plays a key role on the Audentes Finance team. The role is responsible to lead the core financial statement close process, while partnering with the business to drive process improvement. The ideal candidate has proven operational experience within the biotech or related industries. To be successful, the incumbent will be a strong people leader, collaborator, communicator, project/process manager.
The position will be based in our San Francisco office.


  • Operational Accounting:
    • Own and drive all financial cycle closes (monthly/quarterly/annual) and enable accurate and timely close and accounting under U.S. GAAP. Hands-on experience is required.
    • Able to identify, optimize and automate accounting processes and drive efficient and streamlined close process
    • Primary owner of chart of account and rollup to financial statements, general ledger and subledgers
    • Responsible for day-to-day accounting operations and ledgers, including fixed assets, project accounting, prepaid, accruals, cash management, treasury and intercompany consolidations and eliminations
    • Primary owner of understanding GL impact from system interfaces (expense reimbursement, payroll, banking, etc.) with ERP
  • External Financial Reporting:
    • Support SEC filings (10Q, 10K, 8-K, Proxy), prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP and assist with disclosures as needed
  • Inventory Costing:
    • Cost accounting: manufacturing transition from R&D expense to commercial inventory
    • Evaluate and maintain standard cost and purchase price variance, inventory valuation and cogs
  • Commercialization:
    • Evaluate, develop and sustain necessary accounting processes for commercialization: sales reserves, gross-to-net management, order to cash process
    • Develop aligned processes and system integration between CRM and ERP
  • Technical Accounting:
    • Own non-routine, non-standard, significant accounting transaction
    • Identify and manage technical topics, including lease accounting, stock-compensation, significant contracts/license agreements, etc.
  • Other accounting, tax, and compliance projects as assigned; for example:
    • Design SOX controls as needed and perform SOX controls as assigned
    • System design, implementation, enhancement
    • Corporate and subsidiary tax reporting and compliance
    • Support budgeting and forecasting process as needed
    • Ad hoc analysis and projects as needed
  • Staff Management
    • Lead, manage, and direct a team of manager and above finance staff
    • Proven track record of recruiting, coaching and developing high-performing accounting teams

Required Qualifications

  • BS degree in Accounting or related field with CPA
  • 7+ years of progressive finance/accounting industry experience and 3+ years in auditing role in a Big 4 accounting firm
  • Proven ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, multi-task, and work independently, and execute objectives without supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to succinctly communicate complex information (written and verbal) across departments
  • Understand of functional area roles, responsibilities and interdependencies
  • Excellent team work and collaboration skills
  • Ability to manage and develop a diverse accounting team in a dynamic environment
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite tools and ERP systems
  • Demonstrated success initiating and leading cross-functional projects to successful completion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active CPA
  • Proficient with Oracle Fusion ERP
  • Experience with commercial product launch in the biotech or pharma industry
  • Current public biotech company experience, understand clinical trials, preclinical R&D research, manufacturing, product commercialization
  • Experience in a high growth environment. Able to quickly traverse between strategic and detail- oriented operational topics.
