Position Summary:  The Senior Manager, Accounting will report directly to the VP, Corporate Controller and will supervise General Accounting and Procure to Pay functions. He/ She will perform a variety of accounting responsibilities to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, SOX, and company policies and procedures.  The Senior Manager, Accounting is a critical position within the accounting organization and will have direct responsibility for a variety of month-end closing, financial reporting and accounting activities.  The ideal candidate will have a blend of public accounting and corporate accounting experience or similar relevant experience with a publicly traded company.  The ideal candidate will be a hands-on detail oriented professional with demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.  

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for month end, quarter end and year end close process;
  • Supervise the work performed by GL Accountant and Procure to Pay Analyst;
  • Review journal entries for area including revenue, receivables, cash, investments, fixed assets, and accrual activities; along with preparing reconciliations and roll-forwards of activity;
  • Oversee the determination of capitalization of prepaid amounts, fixed assets, journal entries for depreciation & amortization, and reviewing related account reconciliations;
  • Review entries related to lease accounting and other complex/ new standards;
  • Review/ prepare payroll entries;
  • Review purchase orders to ensure appropriate coding of department, GL account, and project;
  • Reviews department and project P&L’s to determine proper coding of transactions;
  • Own special projects related to financial systems, business processes, and analysis as needed;
  • Own SOX documentation and testing;
  • Perform analytical review of financial results;
  • Hands on detailed role in accounting and SEC support;
  • Analyze and process day to day ongoing business transactions;
  • Own assigned areas for process improvements;
  • Prepare and review PBC schedules to support quarterly review and annual audit process;
  • Ensure deadlines for related areas to ensure timely and accurate accounting close;
  • Review schedules and back up to support Form 10-Q and Form 10-K;
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with 8+ years of relevant experience is required;
  • Strong analytical and accounting skills; thorough understanding of U.S. GAAP accounting principles and Sarbanes-Oxley experience is required;
  • A mix of public accounting and public company industry experience;
  • Biotechnology research and development industry experience a plus;
  • CPA license is required;
  • Self-motivated with unquestionable integrity and judgment, attention to detail and time management, and highly organized;
  • Ability to proactively identify and propose solutions to solve problems;
  • Ability to work both independently and part of a team to perform multiple tasks simultaneously;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Proficiency with Word and Excel programs is essential;
  • Experience with NetSuite a plus.
