COMPANY INTRODUCTION:

Nkarta Therapeutics, Inc. is a private biotech start-up that is harnessing the power of Natural Killer cells in developing next generation cellular immunotherapies for cancer. NK cells play a key role in the body’s immune system, able to identify and kill abnormal cells by monitoring their expression of activating and inhibitory receptors and recruit the adaptive immune system.  

Nkarta will combine its NK expansion platform with further proprietary cell engineering technologies to build differentiated products designed to tackle challenging diseases with significant unmet clinical need.

We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Director/Director to join our Finance team. Title will be determined commensurate with experience.

Summary:

The Associate Director/Director is responsible for overseeing the General Accounting, Financial Reporting functions and the financial services area including payroll, stock administration, and accounts payable.  The Associate Director/Director is responsible for implementing and maintaining a system of internal controls that will ensure that company assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with all financial policies, SEC requirements and US GAAP. This position will report to the SVP Finance.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee the general accounting function, which includes cash management/reconciliation, financial reporting, and balance sheet management
  • Ensure that internal control policies and procedures are in place to provide reasonable assurance that the company assets are protected
  • Ensure that company financial reports are prepared in compliance with policies and directives, US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements
  • Provide technical accounting GAAP guidance and prepare technical accounting memos
  • Develop and manage clinical trial and CMC accounting processes
  • Supervise the completion of Federal and State tax reporting requirements, including income, property, sales and use, payroll and other local taxes
  • Ensure that the computer system continues to operate as required
  • Involved in validating/designing suggested changes to ensure accounting requirements continue to be met
  • Coordinate work relating to both internal and external audits
  • Lead interactions with external tax advisors
  • Manage stock plan administration and accounting
  • Oversight of payroll function and partnering with HR to manage employee benefits, currently supported by TriNet
  • Assist in preparing audit committee and board materials
  • Ensure that the accounting department is staffed with qualified financial personnel capable of meeting the objectives and responsibilities

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Accounting or Finance with CPA certification
  • 10-15 years of combined Public Accounting and private industry accounting experience
  • Prior management experience required
  • Working experience with Netsuite or Great Plains.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departmental functions
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls and financial reporting, required
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills are mandatory
  • Experience in a clinical stage bioscience/pharmaceutical company
  • Excellent computer skills
