New ABFO Open Job Posting - Sr. Director, SEC Rep9orting & Technical Accounting

Job Summary:

Vir Biotechnology (Vir), Inc., is a science-driven company guided by medical need. The Senior Director, SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting will be responsible for meeting the company’s financial reporting requirements, including SEC filings, and addressing technical accounting issues arising from business transactions or the implementation of new accounting pronouncements. This individual is also responsible for ensuring compliance with internal controls over various aspects of the financial reporting process.


  • Perform technical accounting research, managing external resources as needed, and prepare technical memorandums that document issues and conclusions in a clear, logical and comprehensive manner
  • Recommend, implement, maintain, and communicate accounting policies, practices and procedures to improve and ensure financial control and integrity of the Company’s financial statements
  • Lead external SEC financial reporting process, including:
    • Creating and maintaining SEC calendar
    • Preparing and publishing 10-Q and 10-K fillings
    • Completing GAAP checklists and ensuring financial statements are presented in accordance with GAAP guidelines
    • Appropriate XBRL tagging
    • Managing internal and external review of all documents
  • Manage the Disclosure Committee to ensure that senior management performs their financial disclosure-related obligations on a timely basis
  • Prepare quarterly earnings release tables and assist in preparation and review of texts and scripts for earnings releases
  • Help drive SOX implementation efforts working closely with SOX consultants. Assist in promoting a culture of awareness and adherence to internal controls within the company as a whole
  • Manage tax returns and tax provision with external tax advisors
  • Maintain relationship and work closely with external auditors
  • Manage and complete special projects as necessary

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or economics
  • 8+ years of relevant experience (biotech industry preferred)
  • CPA required
  • Big 4 experience preferred
  • Outstanding working knowledge of systems, processes, internal controls, US GAAP, PCAOB and SEC regulations
  • Strong written and verbal communicator with the ability to effectively present to and engage with a wide range of internal and external audiences
  • Energetic, hands-on, resilient leader who can partner with all levels and functions of the company and takes a consultative and collaborative approach
  • Passion to scale and grow a complex business – energized by being a company builder, not a steady state manager
  • Unquestionable ethics and integrity
