Summary

Dermira (Nasdaq: DERM) is a publicly traded, commercial-stage company committed to developing new therapies for dermatologic conditions. Our marketed product, QBREXZA, is intended to reach the approximately 10 million people in the U.S. living with axillary hyperhidrosis, and we are initiating a Phase 3 trial for our biologic development candidate, lebrikizumab, for the treatment of moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis.

We are looking for a talented, experienced and well-rounded executive to lead our day-to-day Finance operations, reporting directly to the CFO. The individual will oversee an accomplished and high-performing team of finance professionals at Dermira interested in supporting a leader who is also dedicated to their professional development and supporting the positive team culture. This role is a growth opportunity for an individual looking to move to the next level and will be supported by and partner with the CFO, CEO and other executives at the company.

The (Sr.) Vice President will oversee the Accounting, Finance Operations and Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) functions, which includes production of financial reports, SEC reporting, internal controls, budgeting, long-range planning, financial analytics, global tax, treasury, accounts payable, payroll, stock plan administration, financial risk management and financial systems management and maintenance.
The successful candidate will act as a key business partner with multiple internal constituents. The role also requires frequent interaction with Dermira’s Board of Directors, most notably the Audit Committee, and the executive team, other functional managers, partners, investors and sell-side research analysts. This is a hands-on leadership position.

What You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Leading the Accounting, Finance Operations and Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) functions (as described further below)
  • Preparing materials for the Board of Directors, Audit Committee and Compensation Committee
  • Participating in Audit Committee and Board of Directors meetings
  • Managing Disclosure Committee
  • Playing key role on several internal committees, including Strategic Leadership, Sales & Operations Planning, Incentive Compensation, Pricing, 401(k)
  • Managing multiple policies, including Investment, Expense Reimbursement, Travel & Entertainment, Approval/Signature Authorization
  • Monitoring sell-side analyst financial models, responding to analyst and investor financial questions and interfacing with analysts and investors as required
  • Partnering with the CFO and external cash managers to manage the company’s investments and ensure compliance with the company’s investment policy
  • Ensuring that the company’s insurance requirements are adequate to meet the current and forecasted growth of the company
  • Coaching, mentoring and developing the careers of the Finance team employees
  • Accounting
    • Accounting operations and financial systems
    • Financial statements that are prepared and completed on a timely basis and in accordance with GAAP
      • Includes revenue recognition for commercial product under ASC 606 and cost accounting
    • Financial information systems design, implementation, enhancement, monitoring and controls
    • Annual and quarterly financial statements for inclusion in the Company’s SEC filings
    • Corporate tax reporting and preparation of tax returns
    • Internal controls and SOX compliance
  • Finance Operations
    • A/P, billing and A/R
    • Day-to-day banking operations, investment management and other treasury functions
    • Payroll and related activities
    • Stock administration
    • Insurance
  • Financial Planning & Analysis
    • Annual business planning process, including scenario planning, long-range plans and budgets
    • Detailed, effective and timely analyses of budgets and long-range forecasts
    • Business partnership with Executive Committee and other key management
    • Business modeling for anticipated transactions and financings

What We Need For The Role:

  • BA/BS degree required
  • CPA license required, MBA preferred
  • 15+ years of progressive growth in financial roles in biotechnology/pharmaceutical companies including at least ten years in leadership roles in a revenue-stage pharmaceutical/biotech company
  • Leadership experience in a publicly traded company required; SOX 404(b) and commercial-stage company experience a plus
  • Experience with a Big Four certified public accounting firm highly preferred
  • Investor relations and sell-side analyst and investor interface experience a plus
  • Thorough knowledge of SEC rules and regulations, procedures and practices
  • Excellent knowledge of ERP systems; experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX a plus
