PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This position oversees the implementation and adherence to accounting policies and procedures.  Other duties include but not limited to the directing and coordinating of the daily activities of the accounting staff to ensure timely and accurate record of the expenditures, assets, liabilities and equity transactions of the Company. This position is responsible for meeting deadlines and will direct a multitude of accounting activities for the monthly close process, reconciliations and year-end audit preparation.

MAJOR DUTIES OF POSITION:

  • Manage the daily activities of a team of accountants responsible for:
    • The general ledger of the parent Company and its subsidiaries;
    • The monthly close including preparation/review of journal entries, allocations and major account reconciliations;
    • Organized detailed records and files to document and support financial transactions.
  • Manage and mentor accounting staff and accounts payable to ensure accurate recording of accounting transactions and reconciliation of general ledger and financial statement balances.
  • Review general ledger on a monthly basis to ensure accuracy of posting and account balances are accurate.
  • Produce financial reports involving the Company accounts for monthly management meetings.
  • Produce ad hoc financial reports.
  • Review payroll.
  • Make and implement recommendations to improve accounting processes and procedures.
  • Stay abreast of best practices, and recommend changes/improvements to ensure alignment to best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
  • Supports the organization in maintaining a work environment focused on quality and fosters learning, open communication, collaboration, integration and teamwork.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • BA/BS in business, accounting or related field.
  • 10+ years of increasingly responsible accounting and reporting experience, preferably in the life sciences industry and at least 3 years’ management experience for the Senior Manager position.  The Associate Director level requires 5+ years’ management experience.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining a high performing team.
  • Computer skills: Excellent knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  •  Personal attributes include:

    • Maintain confidentiality over all finance and accounting matters and information.
    • Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to effectively present information to various levels of an organization.
    • Creative approach to problem solving and the ability to think “out-of the box”.
    • Ability to self-motivate and function independently, driven towards superior effort and performance and the desire to work in a very dynamic environment.    
    • Collaborative and team oriented.

Additional knowledge and skills desired, but not required:

  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX or Great Plains is preferred.
  • SOX 404 compliance experience is preferred.
  • 3+ years with a Big Four public accounting firm is preferred.
  • CPA license preferred, but not required.

POSITION LEVEL:

The Senior Manager or Associate Director establishes objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to subordinates; may be involved in developing, modifying and executing company policies that affect immediate operations and may have company-wide effect. This position level works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives. The senior manager may implement strategic policies when selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results; establishes and assures adherences to budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements.  Erroneous decisions from this position will result in critical delay(s) in schedules and/or unit operations and may jeopardize overall business activities.
