Karen Elizabeth Deschaine

Karen Deschaine's practice encompasses a wide range of business and corporate matters, including private financings, public offerings, corporate governance, commercial transactions, strategic transactions, securities matters and the general representation of public and private companies. She represents primarily biotechnology and technology companies and investors in those industries. She is a sought-after speaker on topics of interest to founders, start-up companies and companies seeking investment including presenting for organizations and events such as the Women’s Venture Summit, GeekGirl, EvoNexus, VETCON, and mystartupXX, and frequently teaches the San Diego office's "CooleyU" sessions.

While attending law school, Karen was the editor in chief of the UCLA Women's Law Journal and she was one of the founders of Ms. JD, a nonprofit aimed at promoting the success of women in the legal profession. Prior to law school, Karen served as a captain in the US Army and commanded two companies. While at West Point, she was a member of the sport parachute team and, as such, jumped the game ball into numerous Army football games and was named the Overall Novice Champion at the 1994 National Collegiate Skydiving Championships.

In 2009, Karen received a Pinnacle Award from Athena San Diego. In 2011, Karen was named as one of San Diego's top "40 Under 40" by SD Metro magazine and was awarded the San Diego Business Journal's "Women Who Mean Business." She has also been named by SD Metro magazine as one of 2014's "Women Who Impact San Diego" and was named a winner of the San Diego Business Journal’s “Leaders In Law” in 2020, in the mergers and acquisitions category. Karen is the president of the board of trustees of La Jolla Country Day School.
